Best hair-care tips to combat monsoon blues

Rimjhim girey sawan…sulag sulag jaye mann..

And with this romantic soundtrack here we welcome MONSOON. Monsoon means romance…monsoon means rain dance… and monsoon means HAIRLOSS!! We all love to get wet in the rain, don't we? But that breezy wind and high level of moisture in the air takes a toll on our hair thus HAIRFALL!! No worries gals, today I am going to talk about few hair-care tips for the rainy season, which are going to solve this issue without much effort.

These are –

  • Make sure your hair is clean all the time. If you are dealing with limp hair issue, then opt for volumizing shampoo and conditioner. If you get wet outside, then after reaching home immediately wash your hair with a mild shampoo followed by conditioner.

  • Invest in a good chemical free shampoo and do not dare to forget about using conditioner during monsoons. To bring back shine and life to the dull hair, conditioner is a must.
  • In humid weather, it is advisable to wash your hair in cold water which helps seal hair cuticles and close up the pores.
  • During monsoons, it is always better to massage hot oil before hair wash. The oil deep penetrates into the hair thus making it strong and nourished. If you are suffering from dandruff, then try using homemade oils.

** In a pan, fry 25g of Fenugreek seeds and then grind it to make a powder along with 10g of Camphor. Now, in 100g of Coconut oil, mix this Camphor and Fenugreek seeds powder. Use this oil every alternate day to get rid of dandruff. (You can change the proportions, but try to maintain the ratio of each item)

**Neem, widely known as ‘One Tree Pharmacy’ has antifungal and antibacterial properties, making it effective for curing dandruff. Make a paste of fruit, bark and the leaves of neem with a little milk. Mix this paste with coconut oil and apply on the scalp. OR you can just make a paste of neem leaves and lemon juice; it would also work great for dandruff.

** Lemon juice/ Tea tree EO mixed with coconut oil is also effective in treating dandruff.

  • Try not to comb wet hair, as it might lead to hair breakage. (It is applicable for all seasons)

  • Dry your hair completely before you head out for work or planning to tie a pony or braid. Because of the humid climate, hair remains moist for a longer time and moisture gets trapped in. So to avoid bad odour and fungal infection, you need to dry your hair really well. Best thing is to air dry your hair than using a blow dryer.

  • Particularly, in monsoon season try to avoid elaborate hair styling regime every day as it might not be that great for your tresses in this humid weather. The moisture present in this weather makes hair strands heavy and lifeless. Keep hairstyles simple and minimal.

  • As hair tend to shed heavily during the rainy season, it is better to go for a short haircut. It saves your hair-care time, easy to maintain as well as results in less hair fall.

  • For the swimmers, it is always advisable to wash their hair immediately before & after swimming with plain water. In this way, it protects hair from damages due to the presence of chlorine, salt and other chemicals in the swimming pool and sea water.

In short, in this rainy season, it is better not to get wet. It is highly recommended to shield your hair with either an umbrella or a scarf, as toxins, pollutants present in the air get mixed with the rain water and can damage your hair badly. And if you are blessed with an oily scalp then it’ll easily attract dirt and pollution, so better do not get wet. There are so many cute and colourful umbrellas available these days, I love flaunting cute ones though :D
