2018 Spring Colors:

When we think of pastels, we usually think of blush pink, baby blue, pale yellow, and lavender. Indeed, all of these colors will be part of our spring nail colour collections. However, the trending fashion colors for this year are expected to be dusty colors. This includes:
  • Light Dusty Rose
  • Dusty blue
  • Dusty shades of lavender and lilac
  • Pale gray
  • Light coral
  • Dusty sage
  • Nudes
Within these hues, expect:
  • Glitter
  • Shimmer
  • Metallic accents
  • Floral nail art
  • French nails (traditional and reversed)
Dusty colors are trending in the fashion industry. This trend is even extending to the wedding industry. Besides the fact that they are beautiful colors, there are reasons why people in the know reach for them. Dusty colors seem to manifest differently depending on the colour you wear. For example, a dusty lavender or gray nail polish will seem to have a blue tint when worn with pastel blue. That same nail color will seem to have a purple hue when worn with shades of lavender or light purple. It works well with warm coral, yellow, and pink. This is the magic of the dreamy pastels of the season.

Designs

2018 will be the year for the understated beauty of the unusual. You will see more daring designs on the nails of fashionistas. Here are a few examples:

  • Painting the nails different colors
This Trend has been coming for a while. A word of caution. It is easy to take this look too far. If you are very young and are preparing for a concert or party, having 4 or 5 different colors can work for you. However, this does not work as well in a formal or business environment.
Gel nails last about two weeks. Most of us do not have the time to invest in a multi-color manicure. This is a good reason to minimize the efforts your look takes. Select one (or two) colors for eight of your fingers. Go with one or two of the spring colors that we listed that complement the majority of your spring wardrobe. Select one finger on each hand to paint a different color. Consider a pretty metallic color for that nail. This gives you a trending manicure that can be worn to the most formal or the most casual of events.

  • Nail art
Nail art is easier to apply than ever before. If you are good at painting it on, go for it. If not, there are stick ons, stencils, and nail art kits that will help you add flowers, butterflies, dots, or lines to your nails.

Glitter

Glitter is a great look for anyone, and it is very popular. The problem is, it is not easy to apply. You want your nail to look like the glitter in the bottle. But you soon discover that it takes a lot of coats to make that happen.  It doesn’t have to.  Instead of painting the glitter gel directly to your nail, paint it on a makeup sponge. Then use the sponge to dab the glitter polish on. One coat is all it takes to get the glitter look from the bottle to your nails.

Hints and Hacks

Are you afraid to do your own nails? You know that by doing so, you will save money, have beautiful nails, and can be ready for any occasion quickly. But you just do not think you can.
You have the ability to do your nails. You simply need to know the secrets of the trade.  Let us share a few hints and hacks that will take you from frightened to fabulous.

  • Clear nail lacquer
Clear nail lacquer is an inexpensive way to have perfectly painted nails. Paint all around the edges of your nail with the lacquer, before you paint your nails. If you go too far and get the polish off the nail, it goes on the lacquer. No more messy streaks from trying to get the polish off your skin. When you are finished, simply peel off the lacquer and all the mess goes with it. Your mail is perfectly painted. If you are in a bind, you can also use white Elmer’s glue to do the same thing.

  • Remove the oils first
All parts of our hands have natural oils. Even if you begin with an unpainted and clean nail, wipe your nail with a cotton ball soaked in acetone before you begin to remove oils. This makes the polish stick better and lasts longer. If you do not have any acetone, wash your hands well using Dawn dish soap.

  • Removing dark polish
We have all been there. You are trying to remove a dark color, and your nails refuse to give up the ghost. Before you begin, rub your hands and each finger with a heavy coat of hand lotion. Then apply a cotton ball, soaked in acetone to the nail. Wrap it in foil and let the acetone soak in for 5 minutes. Now wipe the nail. Every bit of the dark color will be gone.

Spring is in the air. Now is the time to replace your dark colors with dramatic and warm pastels. You can do this. Follow these tips, and with a little practice, you will have the nails you love at a fraction of the price you would have to pay a manicurist.
