As the Kuala Lumpur trip was my husband’s official trip, we had only one weekend to explore Malaysia’s capital city. Thankfully, most of the well-known tourist attractions were located near our hotel Istana. Hence two days were sufficient for us to cover up maximum must-visit places, if not all! If you are planning for a short-tip to this city and wondering what are the best places to visit and things to do in Kuala Lumpur then keep reading this post!
Best tourist places to see and things to do in Kuala Lumpur in Two Days-
The PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS |
The first tourist spot on our list was Petronas Twin Towers. We didn’t hire any taxi as this tourist attraction was easily reachable on foot from our hotel. Mind you, this road is busy even on weekends as well. If you have only 48 hours and are staying around 'Kuala Lumpur City Centre' or Golden Triangle then this is the place to start!

Suriya KLCC mall, The PETRONAS Twin Towers:
Suriya KLCC shopping mall is a 6-story shopping complex containing numerous fashion and makeup brand outlets. This shopping complex is located at the base of the PETRONAS twin towers. As we went during our (Indian) Diwali festival, we spotted a beautiful ‘rangoli’ was made at the entrance of the mall. The cool air inside the mall was a respite from the scorching hot sunny weather that day! Well, this is the perfect place for you shopaholics!
Inside the mall, there is a shortcut way to the Towers and from the ticket counter, you can buy the tickets if needed. Pre-booking is highly recommended! For online ticket purchase, head over to https://eticket.petronastwintowers.com.my.
View from KLCC Park |
The magnificent Twin Towers structure resembling the letter M for Malaysia was built by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS, Malaysia's national petroleum corporation) which depicts the nation’s culture & traditions. Besides, the sky-bridge is the world’s highest two storey-bridge from where you can experience the spectacular views of the picturesque surroundings. The views from there are a sight to behold, a must-visit place for sure! You can also capture pictures of the stunning towers from KLCC Park.

Petronas Twin Tower Attraction Include-
There is a Science Discovery Centre, PETROSAINS inside the Petronas Twin Towers. You can enter this centre via level 4 of the Suriya mall. The centre was packed with students, their teachers and parents. It’s a great learning and fun place for kids. So if you are visiting the towers with your children then do not forget to check it out.
➤ AQUARIA KLCC:
Located just 5 minutes away from the Twin Towers and close to KLCC Park is a world-class aquarium that displays a wide array of freshwater, marine and land creatures from Malaysia and around the world. What do you expect to see in an aquarium centre? Name it and this has all! I was overjoyed to see those giant turtles, stingrays, Red-bellied Piranhas, Rare Sand-Tiger sharks and the 10 foot long gigantic Arapaima.

There is a 90 mts long underwater tunnel with a slow-moving walkway surrounded by a transparent glass wall from where you can view the marine life creatures without getting wet.
A giant shark- Aquaria KLCC |
The special activities include interactive feeding shows that are scheduled throughout the day, adventurous dive with real-life sharks, Cage-rage package and ‘Sleep with Sharks’ programme exclusively for the kids. Everything is organized so well with proper information that there is no need to hire any tourist guide/guide book. This place is absolutely worth the money and visit.

➤ KLCC PARK:
Petronas Towers and Aquaria both are connected with this KLCC Park. The park is spacious, clean, has a nice swimming pool, lake and is beautifully maintained. There are plenty of benches to sit, relax, and admire the awe-inspiring structure.
KLCC Park |
The park is absolutely perfect for spending some good quality time amidst lush greenery while watching the Lake Symphony Light & Sound Water Fountain Show. Did I tell you, this Park has some amazing insta-worthy spots? Take out your camera and start clicking!!

Menara Kuala Lumpur/KL Tower:
What, you didn’t get the tickets for Petronas Twin Towers Sky Bridge tour? Don’t get disappointed, head straight to Menara Kuala Lumpur which has the highest viewpoint than the Petronas Towers! Renowned as the 7th tallest freestanding telecommunications tower in the world, KL Tower is situated atop Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve in Kuala Lumpur.
KL Tower, Malaysia |
You can purchase the tickets for Observation deck (276mt) and Sky Deck (300mt above ground level) from the ticket counter located at the base of the hill. Grab a shuttle which will take you to the tower at totally free of cost. Aside from experiencing breath-taking panoramic views of the city skyline and the Twin Towers from the Sky Deck, there are souvenir shops, KL Gift shops (stocked with one-of-a-kind items), photo-ops, amphitheatre, Atmosphere 360 Revolving Restaurant & lots more awaiting you right inside the tower.
We went to the Moghul Mahal Restaurant for our lunch and totally enjoyed their sumptuous food & service. If you love Indian food, you can pay a visit to this restaurant.

Other attractions for the visitors are:
➤ Mini zoo:
Adjacent to the KL Tower, there is a mini zoo which has wild animals like python, squirrel monkeys, rabbits, birds & plant species. Take a small tour around the zoo, you and your kids will love it.

➤ UPSIDE DOWN House:
An absolutely fun place to see and explore is this “Upside down House” which is located a stone throw away from the Menara. You can find all the furniture in the house is upside-down! A unique museum, isn’t it?
In the same vicinity, there is a giant 100-year-old Jelutong Tree which looks stunning! Other tourist attractions include Blue Coral Aquarium, KL Forest Eco Park, XD Theatre that we couldn’t experience due to time limitation.

Batu Caves:
Named after the Sungai Batu (Stone River) that flows past the hill, this limestone hill is HUGE and impressive. It requires great energy to climb up a flight of 272 steps to reach the main Temple Cave but absolutely worth the effort! On your way to the cave, you will surely be greeted by the cute, naughty cave dwellers (aka monkeys), so be cautious while carrying any food packets/bags in your hands.
Batu Caves |
Batu Cave is one of the most popular Tamil shrines in Malaysia and abroad. The world's tallest statue of Lord Murugan is installed right at the foothill of the cave. At the entrance, you’ll find people feeding a lot of pigeons. Temple cave is the largest cave of the hill which comprises of Hindu Shrines. Hold your head up high and get mesmerized by the beaming rays of the sun that come through the opening end of the rock formations and cast a spell on the Cave!
Just below it, there is the Dark Cave that features extinct animals and flora & fauna. The Art Gallery Cave and Musical Cave are situated at the base of the hill portraying statues and paints of Hindu Gods. Located a stone's throw away is Ramayana cave that depicts the stories of Lord Rama and in front of the cave, you can find a giant statue of Lord Hanuman also.
Kuala Lumpur Zoo and Aquarium:
The next top destination is National Zoo Kuala Lumpur which is situated about 5kms away from the capital city. Zoo Negara encompasses a forest lake and 16 animal exhibits making it the most sought-after tourist attraction in Kuala Lumpur after the Petronas Twin Towers and Menara KL.
Zoo Negara, KL |
The Zoo Negara has Giant Panda Convention Centre wherein two super cute pandas from Sichuan, China are kept inside a spacious air-conditioned room. It's a delightful experience for the visitors watching those cute creatures sleeping, taking a tour inside that centre.
The other exhibits include Malaysian Elephants, Lake birds, Australian Plain (houses wallabies, emus, Kangaroos etc), Hornbill Centre, Reptile House, Butterfly Garden, Children’s World, Mammals Kingdom to name a few.
Zoo Negara is vast and to explore this huge zoo you need at least 3 to 4 hours so make sure you are wearing comfortable shoes and outfit. I liked their idea of making open-concept spacious enclosures for the zoo residents!
There is a photo-booth near the entrance for visitors. If interested you can go for the photo-shoot and take the photo printouts or frames as a souvenir with you. The admission to the zoo is not free though, visitors need to pay a minimal price.
For tickets and admission details, kindly check https://www.zoonegaramalaysia.my/openinghours.html
Besides Zoo Negara, the other interesting notable parks in KL are- Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, KL Butterfly Park and Orchid Garden that comprise of rare, exotic species of creatures, birds and plants.
Last but not least, to experience the nightlife and to feel the pulse of this vibrant city you must pay a visit to the buzzing streets of Bukit Bintang. This is the most happening place in Kuala Lumpur and it’s abuzz with plentiful fine bars, hotels, shopping malls and restaurants. If you are a nightlife enthusiast, then this place is ideal for you as it comes alive at night!!
So this was our short travel itinerary for 2 days in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. There are other various activities to do in Kuala Lumpur as this Capital city is abundant in nature-attractions, hiking trails for adventure seekers and nature lovers apart from those above-mentioned tourist places. Kuala Lumpur has a great affordable transport & communication system. To travel around the city, you either can grab a taxi or avail tourist Hop on Hop off bus or Monorail.
I wish I could cover a few more tourist spots but the weather was too hot to walk and take a tour. I would highly recommend visiting Malaysia during the winter or spring seasons. I know at times, we cannot finish visiting all that a place has to offer especially within 2-3 days! So the tourist places that I couldn’t tick off my list, will try to visit them on my next trip to KL.
