How to use Neutrogena Sunblock 50+:

As per instruction, I apply it liberally on my face and body 15-30 minutes before sun exposure. They suggest re-applying this sunblock frequently to maintain protection, especially after sweating, swimming, towel drying or extended sun exposure.

My Experience With Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunblock SPF 50+:

(My skin type- combination, sensitive, dehydrated & acne-prone)

I haven’t tried a lot of sunscreens in my life. I tried two variants from the Indian brand Lotus Herbals before the Neutrogena one.  The first was a cream-based sunscreen and second was a sunblock with a gel-based matte formula, both are nice products. After reading a lot of positive reviews, I purchased this Neutrogena Sunblock a year ago and have been using it since then!!

Product Packaging:

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock comes housed in a plastic transparent carton packaging. The actual product further comes in a nice, white opaque tube packaging which makes it easy to use and travel convenient. The necessary information about the product is written on the packaging itself.

Product Texture:

The shade of Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunblock is white and has a smooth creamy texture with a thick consistency. Neutrogena sunblock has a mild sweet scent to it and is loaded with an SPF of 50 +, helioplex broad-spectrum UVA/UVB PA+++.

As I have combination to dry skin, I always struggle with finding the right sunscreen/sunblock for my skin. The ones that I have tried earlier were either too greasy or too matte to my liking. But Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch sunblock with non-greasy, hydrating formula is apt for my skin type!

Despite having a thick texture, it applies smoothly on the skin and doesn’t leave any white cast afterwards! Don’t get confused with the white colour of the sunblock as upon application it looks transparent on the skin. Usually, sunblocks are noticeable when applied to the skin but that’s not the case with this product. This sun protectant gets absorbed by the skin instantly providing you with a hydrating yet matte finish look.

I don’t apply sunscreen on a daily basis and wear it only when I am stepping out in the sun. I love how this Neutrogena sunblock true to its name feels ultra-light and comfortable on my skin, thanks to its Dry-Touch technology! This sunblock is also oil-free and PABA free making it a suitable for oily and sensitive skin people. No breakouts!!

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 50+

But-kintu-parantu, I don’t like a few things about this product! Like-

➧ Firstly, it does contain a lot of not-so-skin-loving ingredients including parabens!

➧ Secondly and most importantly, post usage it makes my skin look dark!! I don’t know if that happened with anyone ever but I am pretty disappointed with this sunblock from Neutrogena. Lotus sunscreen or sunblock never looked dark on me rather they imparted a glow to my skin post each use. Here even before I get tanned or sunburnt, this sunblock makes my complexion two shades darker than my original skin tone!

I researched online and found out that the sunscreen usually oxidizes or looks ashy due to the presence of Titanium Dioxide/Zinc Oxide. Like all SPF and essential oils infused foundations, powders & BB creams oxidize on me. However, I also think the acidity level (pH) of my skin is too high which causes the oxidation of certain beauty products!! Coming to this Neutrogena SPF 50+ sunblock, it’s free of Titanium Dioxide or Zinc oxide and it’s key chemical sunscreen agents are Homosalate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane aka Avobenzone, Benzophenone-3, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Octocrylene. Not sure, if these are the culprits in my case!

➧ Neutrogena dry-touch sunblock claims to be sweat-resistant but unfortunately, during all my last summer trips it failed to work! In summers, I sweat profusely. I wore this sunblock along with non-greasy moisturizers with a hope that it will protect my skin from the harsh sun rays. But I noticed it got vanished within just 2-3 hours from the application!! Reapplication is required.

➧ It couldn’t keep my skin oil-free for a long time in summers!

So What I Liked About Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunblock SPF 50+:

Overall,

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 50+ stabilized with HelioplexTM is a good lightweight sunblock that provides you with broad-spectrum protection minus any shine! The sunblock formula feels light and is neither too matte nor too oily making it a perfect product for every skin type. It works great for my husband’s oily skin; however, I will not repurchase it as it oxidizes on me!!

If you are looking for an affordable, non-comedogenic, chemical sunblock for your skin then you can give it a try!

See you soon 💗

  1. As a native Floridian who spends a lot of time in the sun, I agree that sunscreen is a must! I haven't tried the Neutrogena before, but this one looks like it goes on smooth, which I like.

  4. this is cult favorite for many but i did not like this at all...it stings my eyes badly even if i don't apply it anywhere near my eyes... so i had to finish it using on my hands and feet...also it made my hands and feet look darker like you mentioned... i reply on lotus ones...

  6. I always use 50+ protection as it is the one that gives me the least thought. A number is nothing if you don't know the meaning. 50+ means 2 hours and 50 minutes of protection before having to put it back (unless you go in the water!)
