How To Take Care Of Skin & Hair During Winter? Winter Care - Part 1

The birds are gone, the world is white
The winds are wild, they chill and bite;
The ground is thick with slush and sleet,
And I can barely feel my feet.  ( R.E.Slater)

And here comes the fourth season- winter! This season calls for cosy jackets, hats, colorful sweaters, and stylish boots but along with these dry, dull, rough, itchy, flaky skin and hair issues come along...huh the list is endless!! We must admit, most of us don’t like winter as much as we love the rest of the seasons. The reason is simple; the dry air zaps out every bit of moisture from our skin and hair. And this freaks me out like anything, so beauties it’s a high time to take good care of our skin and hair. Oily skin beauties may get a relief but dry skin beauties need to take double protection, double care and double tension. In short, winter for them is double trouble!!

But NO worries, today I'm going to share a few winter skin and hair care tips with all of you.

How To Take Care Of Skin & Hair During Winter?

Winter Skin Care Tips-

  • Girls, avoid hot shower if possible and go for lukewarm instead. Do not forget to use moisturizing body wash
  • Avoid scrubbing dry skin patches if possible, as it may aggravate the dryness!
  • Love your body and be hydrated. Drink plenty of water, juice etc
  • Licking your lips is absolutely NO - NO!! Kicking this habit out of your life would save your lips from being chapped and dry. Gently exfoliate your lips by a clean toothbrush followed by applying Vaseline or lip balm. Keep it for at least 10 min and then remove with a cotton swab. Get smooth and soft lips this winter
  • Exfoliate your skin just once a week during this time. If you have rough and scaly elbows then make a paste of brown sugar and olive oil for scrubbing that area of the body
  • Wintry wind sometimes wrecks havoc on sensitive eyes. So keep non-medicated eye drops or saline tears handy. Sunglasses are helpful though!
  • To make your hands and feet soft, slather a good amount of moisturizer and wear cotton gloves before hitting the bed. For the heel, lotions/creams containing lactic acid are much effective
  • Start using baby oil on the body; it’s very effective to combat dry parched skin
  • Make a hydrating toner from chamomile tea/green tea. Soothes skin like charm!
  • Do you know, during winter you can get tanned badly? UV rays are much stronger this time, so sunscreens are a must. Don’t forget this. EVER!
  • Try to use a humidifier in the home. It helps in treating dry skin issues by adding moisture to the air

Winter Hair care Tips–

  • Ladies, it’s better to avoid daily hair wash during this cold season, wash on every alternate day if possible. Well DRY SHAMPOO comes to rescue during these times
  • When hair wash is not possible, try using hydrating mist conditioner. Just spray on hair as often as needed, it will moisturize hair as well as keep statics away. You can make it on your own also by just mixing leave in conditioner with water
  • Dry, itchy scalp issues are quite common during winter, so start massaging the scalp with coconut oil or olive oil or Vitamin E oil. Tea tree is the best EO when it comes to curing scalp itching issues naturally
  • To remove the products build up from the scalp, try using clarifying or deep-cleansing shampoos twice a month (oily scalps- daily wash). An alternative remedy is to mix Apple Cider vinegar with water and rinse hair, preceded by shampoo
  • Deep conditioning plays an important role in the winter hair care routine. A heavy conditioner is a great product, which will moisturize each and every hair strand, provided no scalp build up issue. Do deep conditioning for at least an hour once a week to get the best results, but choose the product wisely
  • If your hair is really dry and parched, take a wide-toothed comb and a few drops of olive oil, run through the hair after shower
  • Do apply nourishing hair packs/masks weekly to get well moisturized shiny hair
  • Experts say, protect your hair while blow drying with a thermal protector
Hope you find these tips on how to take care of your hair and skin during winter, helpful.
